Kalasatama Area

Sunday I got lost on the bike and spend an hour finding Kalasatama Container Square, where we got our bikes fixed by some bike enthusiast. A lot of other things where happening in the area even though it was raining and very windy. We had a coffee and some carrot cake at a nice 'container café' and saw a vegetable garden planted in old concrete bags. I love how the herbs almost takes over the concrete, and contrasts evolve in the area.

Loppis

Yesterday I got on my new (borrowed) bike and headed towards the flea market in central Helsinki. It turned out to be a dangerously cheap and good market... I found a woolen jacket with glass buttons, a bag, a yellow necklace and scissors to cut my fringe. Afterwards I went to the Academic Bookstore to look at magazines and books, and I found a funny little book about finding things at flea markets, and how to use them.

Mushroom Hunting

Yesterday I went mushroom hunting in the Finnish forests with Leena and her family. I guess we were really lucky. After finding the first black trumpet, I only had eye for them and found 10 liters. The forests where beautiful, and I got to see my first two out of the 10 thousand Finnish lakes.

New View / New Scent

This is the view from my french balcony on the 9. th. floor in Pasila, Helsinki. I love to be able to see the sky change during the day, and if I turn my head I can even get a glimpse of the waterfront. The scent is from Greek Korres which makes lovely products that smells like all the natural ingredients they use. I normally don't use scents everyday, as I think it's a real balance to find the right one. This one though is perfect right now with it's freshness and deep undertones.

Lost In The Cyclades

Less than a week ago I returned from two weeks in Paros and Amorgos which are both part of the Cyclade Islands in Greece. We had a wonderful trip with lot's of sun, swimming, eating seafood, drinking beers and rosé wine and reading books. I didn't touch a computer or my phone the whole time I was there, and I actually got to the point where I almost forgot important codes and stuff, and it felt great! Now I'm in a completely different and very exciting place... More about that soon.

Next Stop: Greece

Finally the time has come, and we're off to Greece for two whole weeks from tonight. We will fly to Athens and take a ferry to an Island (we haven't decided which one yet). I expect turqouise water and greek yoghurt in bucketloads. The clothes are more than clean, breakfast is consumed, accessories are picked out: sunglasses (20 kr. from H&M), mini-bag (second hand), bracelet (heirloom from grandmother) and new nail polish from Essie. And most importantly I found two books at the library to bring with me. Julia Lahme's 'Sandheder fra en løgner' which is so far really entertaining, and Kari Hotakainen's 'De uberørte' to hopefully get some idea of Finnish mentality before going there. Take care!

Days In Green

Sunday we went for a walk and felt like tourists in our own city. We discovered a green route at Frederiksberg, where the planting reminded me of how I think Japan looks like. On the way home we walked through 'Landbohøjskolens Have' which is really beautiful. The apartment is now rented out, and I'm spending some days at my mom's place just nearby. Here I have been cooking both quesedilla's yesterday and a curry dish today, and we are planning all kinds of trips. The map is of Norway, where we will go and visit family next year. Today I saw a really interesting photo exhibition at The National Library called Touching Dreams. The photographers are all from Aalto University School of Art & Design where I will be studying next semester. The picture is taken by Anni Leppäläs and is called 'Garden'. I was all by myself watching the projects which are all based on childhood, dreams or memories of some sort.
