Weekend Wandering
This weekend I have been sightseeing in Helsinki with my mom. Looking at funny signs, visiting tempting shops and drinking coffee at nice cafés. And off course a trip to the market Sunday resulting in three blouses for three Euros. The weekend ended with amazing fireworks outside my window - not bad to live on the 9th. floor ;-) By the way Trine from blog-land.dk wrote a recommendation of my blog. What a nice surprise!

Mushroom Pie / Textiles / We Jazz
Saturday I had a nice evening with Emmi and Leena. They made a really good mushroom pie, while I hung around and enjoyed Emmi's cozy apartment. Emmi has a lot of plants and really nice textiles everywhere: under the glass on the kitchen table, on the chairs and as curtains. After a perfect dinner, white wine and talk - Leena and I continued to We Jazz at Kuudes Linja with Timo Lazzy Band. I haven't been to that many jazz concerts in my life, but it was an enjoyable experience even though it was without vocals. The little packed room, colored lights and people dressed up for an evening out made me feel like it was starring in some 1950's movie.

Friday / Fish / Fallow Deer
After a couple of days of hibernation I woke up to a lovely Friday with sun shining through my 'Finnish balcony'. I felt refreshed. After working for some hours I left to check out the Herring Market at the harbour with Julia from school. We tasted Herring Pizza!? It was very good. Later I ran into a cute fallow deer necklace and enjoyed a coffee and a Swedish newspaper with a view to the street. As I sat there the rain started pouring down outside, and I decided to stay for a little while longer. Luckily the rain had stopped when I jumped on my bike to head back to Pasila, and I noticed even more fish on the way...

Blue
I don't have any classes today, and it's raining outside. I think I'm just going to stay on the 9. th. floor reading, writing and feeling a little blue in a good way.

I Used To Think
"I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought, there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it's true I'm here, and I'm just as strange as you", Frida Kahlo.
Picture and quote is taken from Fuck Yeah Frida Kahlo ;-).
To me Frida Kahlo is an amazing artist. I discovered her when I was 16 years old, and I still remember reading her biography and feeling inspired, heartbroken and surprised at the same time. This month an exhibition with her and her husband Diego Rivera's works will open in Gothenburg at Göteborgs Konstmuseum. Oh, I really hope I will be able to go there before it closes in January.

My Tuesday
Today I am following a lecture in The History of Media Arts, where we among other things discuss old films like this. I really like the colors, the movement and the mystery of it being so old and soundless. I can watch it over and over again. The film is from 1896, and the dancers name is Loie Fuller.

Feeling At Home
Today I slept until I woke up, and for once I managed not to wake up at 7 AM. I did some homework, went for a trip on the bike to Regatta for coffee and bolla and cleaned my place. All day I have been thinking about home. What is home, and how can I make myself feel more at home? I realized that books and plants are essential - basically everything which is nice to look at. Therefore I organized the few books I have here and gave my one plant a little extra attention. It seems like the plant feels well at home though, because it is growing like crazy.

Falling
Fall has entered Helsinki with sunshine, beautiful colors and freshness in the air. Before spending my afternoon finishing an assignment I went to the market with Leena. I was not supposed to buy anything, but I could not resist a bag with a lot of personality. It has fall and my name written all over it. I have also started on a new pair of wrist warmers made of baby alpaca. Enjoy your Saturday evening - I am going to make a pie.
